Botanical Description: It is a perennial shrub which grows abundantly in India, Sri lanka, Bangladesh and parts of Northern Africa. A branched erect under shrub 0.3-1.5m high; branches terete. Leaves 5-10 by 2.5-5cm; ovate, subacute, entire, pubescent. Flowers greenish or lurid yellow usually about 5 together sessile, umbellate cyme. Berry red, smooth, 6mm. diameter, seeds 2.5 mm diameter, yellow, somewhat white scurfy Flowering & Fruiting occur from May to December. |

Therapeutic uses:
- Powdered root is given two times a day for 10-15 days to control diabetes.
- Leaves are reported to possess anthelmintic and febrifuge properties.
- Roots are used as liver tonic and for sexual vitality.
- For the treatment of piles, the decoction of leaves is used both internally and externally.
- Roots are used as a general tonic and "adaptogen" helping the body adopt to stress, especially for geriatrics to promote strength and vigour.
