Uses: The Roots are used for both medicinal as well as flavouring purposes. It is known as demulcent , expectorant , laxative and sweetener. Various preparations of liquorice are administered in cough, gastric ,duodenal, ulcers, cardiac asthma, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis and dermatitis. Liquorice is sweet in taste and is also used as a preservative. The extract is used to flavour cigarettes, chewing and snuff tobacco. As a sweetener it is used in chocolates, chewing gums, candies and baked food thus making them healthier to eat rather than harmful. |
